If the kiddos in your life are anything like mine they always want SLIME! Depending on where you buy it it can be a very messy, expensive disaster. After several instances of slime being smeared throughout the house we put a ban on all slime.
THEN, Charley started school & I felt bad because on the bus kids were always playing with slime but she never had any. So I was a sucker & caved with the idea that she was in kindergarten now & was more responsible. WELLLLLLLLLLL....she definitely proved me wrong, multiple days she came home with slime all over her coat, shirts, pants. Again she was banned from having slime!
NOW mom has quit her corporate job, is working at home on her handmade business & man do these kids need something to keep them busy this summer! SO one request that they had was..........you guessed it slime! I was going to say no, I actually did several times! However, I started thinking maybe I could find an easy cost effective way to make it so when I am upset in a day I didn't just throw $10 for each kid in the trash.
I didn't find a way to make the slime less messy & to be honest it has gotten into my carpet, but we found this easy, cheap way to make it today & what Walker did get into the carpet I was easily able to get out!
So follow us on our first craft blog adventure as we make slime!
For this recipe you will need the following:
1/2 cup of glue, we use white Elmer's School Glue but you can use clear & any brand
1 tsp of Borax
1 1/2 cups of water
Also for each batch that you are making you will need 2 separate bowls
(optional) - Food coloring, paint, glitter, or essential oils
Step 1: Take one of your bowls & mix 1/2 cup of water & 1/2 cup of glue.
Note: The glue will get very stringy inside of the water, it is very important that you get the glue as mixed with the water as possible. Charley got hers very well mixed but Walker did not so it caused a problem that I was able to fix (don't worry, I will show you how)
Step 2: If you want to add any coloring, essential oils for scent, or glitter now is the time to do that, this is to ensure that the coloring is mixed in well & stays put (Last time we made this slime I didn't put in any food coloring until the very end & it came off onto the kids hands every time they touched it)
Note: Remember since the glue is white you may need to add additional food coloring or paint to get your desired color. We used neon food coloring but you can choose to use any food coloring or acrylic pain to color your slime.
Step 3: In a separate bowl combine 1 cup of warm water & 1 tsp of borax, mix until the borax dissolves fully into the water.
Step 4: Combine both bowls into a larger bowl & mix until the slime starts to form, there will be excess water in the bowl but it should start to be stringy.
Step 5: This is how stringy it will look, you should then drain off the excess liquid, I would recommend draining it back into one of the other bowls & not just right down the drain (as I did for Walker's slime, you may end of needing the excess liquid later)
Step 6: After draining off the excess fluid then use your hands to finish mixing up the slime until it is at the desired consistency.
Note: Walker didn't mix his glue into the water good enough so after we drained the excess water, no matter how much we mixed his slime it was still very stringy. SOOOOOOO that bowl of the excess that we drained came in handy, I took a chance & dipped the slim into the liquid & then took it out & continued to mix by hand. This took a couple of times but his slime ended up as smooth as Charley's did in the end!
Enjoy playing with your slime! Make sure that you store your slime in an airtight container or a zip lock baggie! If you make this recipe let us know how it turned out for you!
